Accessibility & Support
Bringing person-centred training to person-centred care.
Visual Support
1. Adjusting Font Size (Zooming)
Our digital platforms are designed to scale cleanly. You can instantly enlarge the text at any time:
- Windows PC: Hold down the CTRL key and press the + (plus) key.
- Mac: Hold down the CMD key and press the + (plus) key.
- Mobile/Tablet: Use two fingers to "pinch and pull" outward on the screen.
2. Visual Stress & Contrast
If you experience visual stress (such as Irlen Syndrome) or find reading bright screens difficult:
- Windows: Search for "High Contrast" in your Start Menu settings.
- Apple Devices: Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size, and toggle "Smart Invert" or apply a "Color Tint".
- Browser Extensions: We recommend tools like Dark Reader or screen tinting extensions, which work flawlessly with our training portals.
3. Built-in Screen Readers
Our platforms are built with standard web code, meaning your device's built-in text-to-speech software will read the training aloud perfectly.
- Windows: Search for and open Narrator.
- Mac/iPad: Enable VoiceOver in Accessibility Settings.
- Android: Enable TalkBack in Accessibility Settings.
Hearing Support
We ensure that auditory information is always accompanied by clear, accessible text alternatives.
1. Digital Learning
All video content integrated into our e-learning pathways features accurate, easy-to-read subtitles. You will never be required to rely solely on audio to pass a compliance module.
2. In-Person / Practical Training
For face-to-face sessions, we utilize technology to ensure you don't miss a single word:
- Speech-to-Text Integration: If requested prior to the session, we can provide a dedicated tablet pre-loaded with live speech-to-text software.
- Wireless Audio: Our trainer will wear a wireless microphone paired directly to the tablet, ensuring the software picks up every instruction accurately, even in busy training environments.
"Please inform your Registered Manager or contact us directly prior to an in-person session so we can have the technology charged and ready for you upon arrival."
Mobility Support
In-Person Practical Assessments
We deliver practical face-to-face training at your care home, domiciliary care office, or chosen external venue. Because we do not own these premises, we have limited control over the physical layout of the building.
However, we are deeply committed to your safety and participation. If you are a wheelchair user or have specific mobility requirements:
- Venue Liaison: Let us (or your manager) know in advance. We will actively liaise with the venue manager to ensure the designated training room is located on an accessible floor and that safe emergency egress routes are established for you.
- Practical Adjustments: During physical modules (such as Moving & Handling or Basic Life Support), our trainers will adapt practical assessments to your physical capabilities, focusing on your safe direction and understanding of the mechanics rather than strictly physical exertion, where legally compliant to do so.
Learning & Cognitive Support
There is no time limit on our digital platforms. Our training is designed to be stress-free. You can take as long as you need, step away from the screen, and return whenever you are ready.
1. Neurodiversity & Anxiety
We understand that formal training environments can cause anxiety. For in-person sessions, we can support neurodivergent team members (e.g., Autism, ADHD) by:
- Providing the course materials and syllabus to you days in advance so you know exactly what to expect.
- Allowing you to step out for sensory breaks at any point during a face-to-face session without penalty.
2. Talking to Your Manager
If you have dyslexia or a specific learning requirement, it is important to let your manager know. Under the Equality Act 2010, your employer is required to make "reasonable adjustments" to support you.
How to start the conversation:
"I want to make sure I fully understand the compliance training, but I sometimes find reading on a screen difficult. Could we discuss adjusting how I do my training, perhaps by completing it alongside a colleague?"
Language Support (ESL)
1. Using Native Browser Translators
Because our digital training is built using standard web text, your internet browser can translate the entire module for you instantly.
- Google Chrome: Right-click anywhere on the screen and select "Translate to [Language]".
- Microsoft Edge: Click the "aA" translation icon in the top web address bar, or right-click and select "Translate".
2. Practical Workplace Support
If you are concerned about misunderstanding important compliance regulations, you should speak to your Registered Manager. You can request to:
- Complete the training on a shared screen alongside a fluent colleague.
- Receive a translated copy of your care home's specific internal policies.
- Have a supervisor guide you through the practical meanings of assessment scenarios.
English Language Courses (ESOL)
Improving your English can help you feel more confident in your care role. The UK Government offers support to find ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) courses, many of which are free or fully funded.
